Kornfeld, a German Expressionist writer, was born in Prague and was a childhood friend of Franz Werfel; from 1925 onward he was a dramatist in Germany, first in Berlin under Max Reinhardt, then for a time in Darmstadt and later again in Berlin. With the rise of the Nazis in Germany, he returned to Prague in 1932; he died in a concentration camp in 1942. From the description of Correspondence to Franz Werfel, 1913.
